Testimonial:

“I think breaking the silence of past trauma’s, being heard by compassionate, caring people and then being affirmed and acknowledged put these stories into a more realistic perspective. Much of the negative energy was seeped out with the sharing of guilt, shame, failure and fear. I felt a satisfying completeness after my Show and Tell. It was like I could leave the past behind and be more present in my now and future. I felt like I didn’t need to drag the sack with me any longer. The insights of the threads that carried thru my journey are also good indicators for my present. When I start repeating an old pattern or old ticker tape, I stop and say, “I don’t want to go there’, or “That is a lie”. The group also helped me connect to my authentic self and because of the deep sharing, the persona I put on or the persona someone put on me, was exposed and the real me was revealed. This was an awesome experience of vulnerability, acceptance, love, caring and healing. I think if a person is willing and ready to look inside, they will definitely benefit from this experience

I Dreamed a Dream…

Like many of you I took the opportunity to go see the movie, “I Dreamed A Dream – From The Musical “Les Miserables”.

It was over three decades ago that I first saw the musical live in California.   So this second time around, I knew what to expect.  I thought I was ready to be swept away by the greatest musical of all times.  The 2 hours 37 minutes of entertainment were riveting and captivating.  My eyes were glued to the screen and not at all diverted by the audience, chatty friends, popcorn or munchies.  Soon deep emotion swept over my entire body and began with my eyes giving way to tears.  My throat choked up and started to restrict.  I resisted the urge to wipe my cheek, now dripping with salty tears that I could taste.

As the credits rolled, I sat their motionless slumped in my seat.  I felt I had witnessed the death of a friend, a colleague, a loved one, of me?

As I slowly rose from my seat I was both inspired and relieved.

For there was a time that I too could sing this tune…

“I had a dream my life would be

So different from this hell I’m living

So different now from what it seemed

Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.”

I have begun dreaming again?  And YOU?

“I Dreamed a Dream”

There was a time when men were kind

When their voices were soft

And their words inviting

There was a time when love was blind

And the world was a song

And the song was exciting

There was a time and it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in days gone by

When hope was high and life worth living

I dreamed that love would never die

I dreamed that god would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid

And dreams were made and used and wasted

There was no ransom to be paid

No song unsung no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night

With their voices soft as thunder

As they tear your hope apart

As they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side

He filled my days with endless wonder

He took my childhood in his stride

But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dreamed he’d come to me

That we would live the years together

But there are dreams that cannot be

And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be

So different from this hell I’m living

So different now from what it seemed

Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

The dream, the dream I dreamed

Come, come, whoever you are…

“Come, come, whoever you are.

Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.

It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair.

Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times.

Come, yet again, come, come.”

- Rumi

Curious?  What does ‘lover of leaving’ mean to you?

Heart of WAR or Heart of Peace?

Last summer I found myself reading out loud every morning to my girlfriend, at the poolside of our Radium resort, while our teenage children slept in.  The book that caught our attention and called us to this early morning ritual was, “The Anatomy of Peace,” by the Arbinger Institute.

I was reminded of the book yesterday, and its underlying message.  There I was in the office of a professional being belittled by this giant of a man with BIG booming voice. I felt life slowly seep out of my body as his presence filled the entire room.  I felt my spirit leaving me as he towered over me stating, ‘I told you…”   I called forth every ounce of courage I had not to feel small, but to be acknowledged as a person with a voice and with dignity.

Why do people abuse power and use manipulative tactics?  Why do we justify our behavior under the guise of needing to be right.

If you want a profound read that will change the way you view conflict in any relationship, I challenge to read

“The Anatomy of Peace.”

Choose peace!
